Mariana Crisóstomo aka Junkhead Creative is a Portuguese illustrator and graphic designer living and working between Porto and Brighton.
Mariana completed a Sound and Image BA in Porto and moved to London for 3 years to do a MA in Communication Design: Illustration at Kingston University.
She’s been working as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer since 2012, with hundreds of clients including Porto Editora, LeYa, Manuscrito Editora, Grupo Solverde and FUJIFILM Portugal.
Her practice ranges from children illustration to logo design, books, posters, clothing, wall and window painting, personalised illustrations, showing a coherent and diversified body of work.
In 2015, Mariana created her famous series of illustrations called “Portuguese Sayings That Make Absolutely No Sense”, representing some of the most curious and funny Portuguese idiomatic expressions.
Mariana has always found herself on a constant search for ways of expression in her life. She realised her eagerness to draw, to immediately imagine drawings as a characterisation of the daily routines and to create narratives, as her creative expression.
